Parowan Wrestling had a very successful season and took many steps in the direction that the program wishes to proceed. Starting off the season, Parowan Wrestling was small with only 6 returning wrestlers, but through the efforts of the team, we were able to grow our "dysfunctional family" to 17 within just a few days after the start of the season. This year's team was a special group of individuals that were all so different from each other in body types, sizes, general interests, and athletic experience that bonded together tightly as the season unfolded. Wrestling is arguably the toughest sport on the planet, but because of this difficulty, an environment was created where the athletes relied on one another for support and motivation.
In competition, the team battled every week against opponents from around Utah, Arizona, and Nevada schools ranging in size from 1A to 6A and were able to come out victorious in over 175 matches. Parowan Wrestling had champions and place winners at tournaments at Jordan, Panguitch, Parowan, Milford, Enterprise, 2A Duals, Divisionals, and the 2A State Tournament.
The post season was very successful with the team qualifying 14 wrestlers for the state tournament and having 2 Division Tournament finalists and a Division Champion. The 2A State Tournament was very competitive and our team went and battled to the end and finished with 2 State Placers. Both of the State Placers also accomplished the feat of becoming 2X State Placers which had not been accomplished in our High School since approximately 2008.
The team worked hard day in and day out in the practice room and I believe that each of them improved dramatically in their skill on the mat, but more importantly in developing skills, mental toughness, and character traits which will help them as they go through life off of the mat. We were led through the season by our lone Senior Cordell Cluff who will be greatly missed next season. The leadership and enthusiasm that Cordell provided throughout his high school wrestling career no doubtably left the program better than he found it.
As a Team we look forward to continuing the work to improve on the Mat through the rest of the year in preparation for next season. In addition to the off season wrestling, our team will move on to participate in spring and fall sports and increase our physical and mental condition until next season. Parowan Wrestling is optimistic about the future of our program and would like to invite anyone with any interest in joining wrestling and being a valued member of our team to get with a current team member and come see what we are all about. #RAMFAM
