On April 3, 2001, a one-ton bale of hay changed Chad Hymas’ life. On that night Hymas became a quadriplegic. But he did not let that moment paralyze him.
Hymas shares that story and others as he travels solo around the world to inspire others. Iron County School District is sponsoring Hymas for a weeklong visit . The community is invited to hear his inspirational words at 6:30 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Cedar High School, 703 W. 600 South.
The evening includes an open house with local community partners prior to the event at 6 p.m. Parents can pick up internet safety tips, information on mental health awareness and other helps along with some swag from partners like Juvenile Justice and Youth Services, Iron County Care and Share, Southwest Behavioral Health, Southwest Technical College and Department of Workforce Services.
All attendees will be entered to win some fabulous prizes like an Apple Watch, Chromebook, Beats Headphones and more.
Hymas is a world-class wheelchair athlete. He plays basketball, full-contact rugby and set a new world record by wheeling a personal marathon of over 500 miles. He is proof of what is possible when you don’t let life’s challenges take you down.
And if you ask Hymas, his greatest accomplishments continue to be remaining a devoted husband and father of four children. Additionally, he continues to run a 5,100 acre elk farm in Rush Valley.
Hymas has presented his “Choices” program in thousands of public schools throughout the United States. His message is designed to provoke students to reflect upon their current values and make an honest assessment of where they are in their development as citizens, students, and people.
